Buckley (Sarah Buckley Samiani)

Buckley is a Los Angeles-based public artist who creates site-specific artworks integrated into shared architectural spaces. Working across painted murals, stained glass, mosaic, metal, bas-relief, and wood marquetry, Buckley designs original commissions in deep collaboration with specialist fabricators and master craftspeople. Her practice is grounded in the belief that the decorative arts — mosaic, stained glass, carved stone, marquetry — are not merely decorative but are the oldest storytelling devices of human civilization, and that public art made in these ancient mediums can carry modern stories of collaboration, coexistence, and shared humanity. Past clients include LAX Airport and Delta Airlines, YouTube, the City of San Francisco, Starbucks, Stanford University, NASA/JPL, Nike, Adidas, Warner Bros, Warby Parker, Children's Hospital Los Angeles, and Hoxton Hotel. Buckley is also known for the public artwork "Le Sorelle," a custom architectural stained glass commission in Charleston, South Carolina, and the "Mise en Scène" mural commissioned by the City of San Francisco dedicated to Alonzo King Lines Ballet and American Conservatory Theater. Buckley maintains a partnership with Scottish Stained Glass for large-scale architectural glass commissions.

Buckley | An Artist for Shared Spaces

The way we adorn a space affects the way we relate to ourselves and one another within it. Buckley focuses on creating art for shared environments in order to foster social cohesion, strengthen community identity, and create a sense of place and belonging.

Based between Los Angeles & Mexico City, Buckley works across multiple disciplines, choosing the medium that best honors a space: its intentions, its history, and its future. Her commissioned works have been installed in airport terminals, civic buildings, corporate campuses, hospitality and healthcare spaces across the United States and internationally.

Beyond the Paintbrush

While murals are Buckley's entry point, they are not her final destination. Inspired by the storytelling devices of past civilizations, Buckley reaches to the ancient mediums of the decorative arts to apply a modern voicing to these timeless materials.

frequently asked

custom artwork commission FAQ

Can you work in any material?

Buckley's visual language, its sense of line, image, and meaning in space, can be realized in paint, glass, mosaic, metal, stone, wood, and beyond. Bring a vision and a space. We'll identify the material together and engage the best fabricator to fulfill it.

What does a commissioned artwork cost?

Interior and residential murals typically start at $8,000. Large-scale commercial or architectural commissions range from $20,000 to $200,000+ depending on scale, material, and fabrication. Works in architectural art mediums (mosaic, stained glass, bas-relief, and wood marquetry) are scoped individually based on fabrication complexity. Every project begins with a free consultation and a custom estimate.

What should we bring to the first conversation?

As much or as little as you have. Some clients come with a fully realized brief; others come with a space and an instinct. What matters most is a sense of the intention of your space or project. Buckley can guide design diagnostics until clarity for the scope of the project is reached.

Where do you work?

Buckley is based in Los Angeles, California and accepts public art commissions nationally and internationally. Past commissioned site-specific works have been installed in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Charleston, and Portland, among other cities. Buckley also maintains a studio in Mexico City.

How long does a commission take?

A painted mural can move from concept to installation in 6 to 12 weeks. Works involving specialist fabrication such as mosaic, stained glass, metal, or marquetry typically require 3 to 12 months. We work to your schedule wherever possible. Rush projects are happily accommodated with an additional fee.
